Bodily Injury Liability (BI)

Bodily Injury Liability covers an injury that you may cause to another person, as a result of an automobile accident, that is determined to be you fault. This person may be a pedestrian or a passenger in your car, or in another car, involved in the accident.

Most states require a minimum level of bodily injury liability coverage. State Minimums are often too low to cover someone (or more than one person), if they become seriously injured. It is important to understand that if an accident is determined to be your fault and the cost to care for those individuals exceeds the amount of the insurance coverage you carry, the balance of the cost is your responsibility. It's especially important to have adequate liability coverage if you own a home or have other assets.
